My husband’s business unit received their annual bonus letters on the 26th of September, where it stated how much they will be receiving as a bonus and in the letter it stated that this bonus is payable to them on the 30th of September. However they have still not received any payment from the head office and if they ask questions they simply get told, they are not getting answers from HQ and/or they are busy auditing the bonuses or reconciling the bonuses? 

Can they do this, can they withhold payment from staff after already informing them of the payout date? Most of the employees went and spent their salaries, knowing that their bonus payments will be done the Monday of 30 September, and now most of the employees are sitting in trouble with little or no money?
